Many of you already know that I broke up with my long-term girlfriend last month. The breakup came suddenly but the relationship had been dying for several months. I am ready to move on.

After the break up, I thought about a lady who I dated 10 years ago. She is from the Ukraine, grew up under the USSR regime, but has been in this country for about 20 years. We dated for 6 months and then she moved away to be with her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. We parted on friendly terms but I started dating other women and Ana and I had very infrequent contact for the next 10 years. . . but I thought about her occasionally.

I recently contacted her and we are making plans to meet at a halfway point (she lives about 230 miles from me.) I am trying to be restrained but she was excited to hear from me and she is excited about us seeing each other again. It is nice to feel wanted!

She is the only woman from my past who I want to date again. Our previous relationship did not end in a breakup because of differences between us and I don't think I am walking back into a relationship that is plagued. I don't want to rush into a relationship with anyone but she is a nice woman who I know I can trust and she already knows that I will treat her with respect. I would not post a picture of her online but she bears a strong resemblance to this picture:


Is there anyone from your past who you would date again? Was it a sexual relationship or were you dating without it being a sexual relationship? Why did it end? Would you be optimistic if you resumed the relationship?

It is time to break up. I have tried to be the best boyfriend that I can be but, after two years, she just isn't into me. I've told her that I love her; she has told me that she really likes me, respects me, and trusts me. . . but she doesn't love me. Spending time together is not as important to her as it is to me. In the last three weeks, we have spent only one night together. She had plans for all those other weekend days I wanted to be together, and her plans didn't include me.

I am not angry at her but I am disappointed that she has been somewhat selfish in our relationship. I could tell her how I am sad, disappointed, etc. but what's the purpose? It won't change anything. So why even tell her all the reasons and go through the litany of "I said this and then you said that and then I did this," etc?

Of course, if our relationship had been toxic, my plan for breaking up would revolve around minimizing the drama and the potential for any arguments getting out of control. But that is not a concern.
