I have been dating my girlfriend for 10 months. We spend almost every weekend together. We enjoy our time together and we have many common interests. We have had a few minor disagreements but we have never had a fight. I think she is The One and everyone who knows us says we are an ideal couple.

I am in love with her and I have told her so. She says that, because of her history of being married to a man who was unfaithful for many years, she is very guarded about letting anyone into her heart. I understand that. I would like to think that she loves me but I honestly don't know what's in her heart. Of course, I have asked her to talk to me about our relationship and her feelings. She says that she is very happy with our relationship and that she is very fond of me. She doesn't say that she loves me and I don't push her to say it, because if/when she says it, I want to know she is telling me what is in her heart and not merely responding to some perceived pressure. In the meanwhile, we continue to enjoy a monogamous, exclusive relationship.

My goal in dating is to find a partner for a permanent relationship. I want someone who loves me just as I love her. I want someone who will be committed and faithful to me just as I will be committed and faithful to her.

At times, I tell myself that I should be patient and wait for her to become more confident. Other times, I think that may never happen and, potentially, I am spending time seeking something that will never come to exist. What do you think I should do?
