Here's the context. Last week, my boyfriend raised his concern that I often ask him to do a bunch of things differently because I don't like them - maybe because they hurt my feelings, it's a preference, or they bother me. At this point, he can't make all these changes because he doesn't remember them or he doesn't want to change some of the things I asked. He asked me to not complain for a week and I failed at it once and needed to restart. He told me that he doesn't want to be with me if I won't stop complaining because it makes us argue every week. When I complain, I'm not doing it in a mean way. I'm telling him nicely that I didn't like that joke about me for example but he thinks I'm being petty and responds in annoyance or anger. I succeeded after a 2nd try to stop complaining for a week and yesterday, I told him I want him to stop making a joke and he told me it's another petty complaint after I called him on the phone to respond to his comment. Then he told me he can't be with me if I'm not going to stop getting worked up about these "petty" complaints even though I tried my best. I know it's been only a week that I stopped, but I wanted to share my feelings about the joke he made about me. Would you say this to someone you love or do it differently? Do you think our relationship will last?
