So long story short. Yesterday, I was suppose to host a dinner for my boyfriend, my best friend and his best friend. I cancelled last minute, upsetting my boyfriend and his best friend. So to make it up to his best friend, my boyfriend invited him to go for a ‘guys night’ tomorrow. (They can’t go anywhere cause we are only in Phase 2 of COVID so they are going to hang at someone’s house.) Now I’m not overprotective or jealous so idc that they are going out tomorrow.
What I AM upset about is how my boyfriend went upon it. He went and asked his friend to hang out, and then told me ‘I’m hanging with ____ tomorrow so I’ll be driving you home around 5.’ And when I asked him what time he’ll be picking me up after they hang out (since I have constantly staying by him these last few weeks) he said ‘oh well I want the option of staying out late and not having to drive if I drink so let’s just hang out on Monday.’ Knowing good and WELL that I was suppose to sleep by him on Friday AND Saturday night. (I can’t sleep by him on Sunday bc I have a birthday party.)

Should I take this as suspicious? I told him I’d Uber to him or he can sleep by me if he doesn’t want to drink and drive but he is STILL saying no bc he wants the nights to himself. So of course I’m getting suspicious bc how do we go from sleeping together every night to now wanting this space? Am I crazy or right?

I grew up with four brother, I was the only girl 😢 My parents and brothers are very protective of me and always have been. Growing up I wasn’t allowed to hang out with certain people especially boys and those very few guy friends I did have we’re scared off.

I’m now 23 and have never been kissed or been on a date and part of the reason is because I’m terrified that my parents or brothers might do or say something. It gives me anxiety just thinking about it in my head.

I want to go on dates, I want to have my first kiss and more but I can’t exactly do it in secret because they literally watch everything I do. Sometimes I feel that they’ll be okay with me dating and being in a relationship but they’ll make a comment or do something that changes my mind.

Like today I was scrolling through TikTok in my room and my brother knocked on the door. I put the iPad down on the bed and opened the door. My brother saw the iPad and saw a guy on it and automatically started asking questions like “what are you doing “ and “who’s that”. Imagine if I was actually on FaceTime to a guy 🤦🏼‍♀️ It embarrassing.

Anyone else in similar situation and if so how are you coping? Advice welcome

My aunt was raised with overprotective parents. They wouldn't even let her sleepover not even with a female friend. She would secretly date her HS sweetheart. Her uncle caught them making out once and made a big scene, dragging her all the way home, yelling about how that's not how young ladies behave, told her parents about it, etc. She got banned from seeing her boyfriend. Her parents were too focused on her waiting till marriage, never drinking nor smoking, that type of upbringing.

Result:
She didn't wait till marriage.
Her HS sweetheart wasn't her first and only boyfriend ever.
She was into parties for a bit as an adult, enjoying the freedom she never had.
She married her 4th boyfriend, a very liberal man.

Liberal/permissive style
She and her husband only had a daughter and she was raised in the liberal manner. She was allowed to go on camping trips and excursions (far from home) with friends, went out on a date at the age of 14 for the first time, didn't have a curfew and at the age of 16 got lectured about safe sex. My aunt didn't want to make the same mistake her family did to her.

Result:
She got pregnant at the age of 18 with her 3rd boyfriend.
Her ex boyfriend still pays child support and is in contact with the child often.
She's now 27, married with another guy and they have 2 kids.
My aunt and her husband thinks they exceeded on her liberalism.

Obviously neither extreme is good but which do you think is worse? Overprotective or very liberal parents?
