We've been talking for close to two years now ans have gone through a lot of ups and downs. I've never been this emotionally intimate with someone before but he made it clear from day 1 that we could never get married because I wasn't of the same culture as him. As we got closer, it kind of got harder. What I'm confused about: this other guy from my culture proposed to me.

I told him about it, thinking he'd get jealous since he is pretty possessive, but he actually told me to say yes to that guy. He said I actually had a future there since that guy was of the same culture as me, etc. He also tried to make me feel better. He tried to make light of the situation, but when I asked him if he had ever loved me -- he paused and started saying something before shutting down and saying he had to leave.

He has refused to talk to me since then. He has never done this before and I am really hurt. Why is he ignoring me when all I want is for him to confirm we both felt the same way about each other? He usually only shuts down when I make him mad or upset.
