This guy and I are friends who work together. I'm technically his boss. We constantly get teased that we are going to date one another. We text almost everyday, for hours to the point where he and I have to say goodnight to get the other to shut up. He is super supportive of my dreams and pushy, telling me I need to go back to school and what not. Recently, he bought me a nameplate, and gave me fifteen dollars to pay for my substitute teaching license (I want to be a teacher), and wrote a handwritten note saying how he believed in me and that he wanted to see the nameplate on my desk one day. Is this normal behavior? I asked my guy friends and one of them who I am super close with was like... Dude, I wouldn't do that for you and I love you. On the other hand we joke around that we are getting harassed by everyone about us dating. He even told another friend that if they like me so much why didn't they date me... Is that deflecting... I don't know this is so confusing.

This is an old classmates that I kept in touch with in a friendly way, non overbearing way.
He seemed to enjoy the fact that we would exchange news from time to time.
Lately I got some news.
He told me about how his relationship had ended, about his failures, what had gone wrong. I myself had been through a rough patch and it felt great opening up to someone
Back when we were classmates, he seemed really interested and things were rather.. intense? between us as he was taken and all (but nothing happened, it was just stares, touch etc..). I had kept some feeling for him during all this time and hearing from him again, and seeing how his situation had changed just brought back all of them.
I ended up telling him how I would have been happy to see him.
And his reply implied we could meet
But then he changed, he ignored me for a whole month. I thought he was busy because he had taken a long while to answer previously. And then he said he was busy with his long distance relationship with his gf. I told him that was my case too and that was it.
He found a way to end the conversation by simply giving me his number, texted me he had mine, said I was welcome in his town whenever I wanted and also told me he wanted to come near where I live. (but I know he won't and even if he does, he won't tell me)

And I haven't had any news since, and I just don't know if I'm bothering him, if I was just an entertainment, someone he felt he could vent to.
I don't understand why he would imply we could meet and then back away.

So which is it? He was interested but thought I wasn't?
I misread the signs, I'm just an acquaintance and I better never ask for news again?

This guy confuses me. He would keep the conversation going and then , stop replying... then he gives me his number...

I am very sensitive to rejection because of past experiences.
I kind of feel used and lied to during all these years. I thought he at least appreciated hearing from me.
