Especially if their beliefs are itself inherently intolerant in nature?

Many people tend to be extremely hostile towards the supporters of Trump, especially due to the views that he holds (anti-Muslim and anti-immigration sentiments). And we generally think it's okay to be intolerant towards their beliefs.

But when a staunch religious person espouses a view (kindled by their religion) against gay marriage or homosexuality in general, it is often overlooked and we're taught that criticism towards said beliefs (and the religion itself) should be refrained.

Why is there this double-standard?

Keep in mind, I don't think all religious people are as such, but a considerable portion of them are quite intolerant towards others (ex. you see Christians with anti-Muslim sentiments and Muslims with anti-homosexuality sentiments). And I don't mean just religious people, but any group in particular.. It's just common for this to happen surrounding religion.

I think if you have the capacity to be intolerant towards others beliefs, you shouldn't be complaining when someone criticises your own personal beliefs. Stop antagonising others, then subsequently play the victim.

I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I'm curious about what people currently think.

To be clear it'd be a show that would show all sides of the issue. It wouldn't be a one sided show where white characters are the bad guys and black and POC characters are the good guys.

I feel there needs to be a show or a dialogue where white people can put out their dialogue without being ostracized. I feel many whites feel threatened and like they're being blamed for everything. It would help. Whites have many things they feel blamed for. Fatherless homes in the black community, poverty, police brutality, immigration, and are automatically shunned and deemed racist if they say what they feel.

I feel their needs to be a show where white characters are shown as good people, but still question things that your everyday white American does not approve of. Black Lives Matter for example. Where is a show where a white character who is a lead who can openly disclaim why they don't support it and why they feel black people should take responsibility? Where is a show where a white person can be against illegal immigration and not be seen as an asshole? Where is a show where a person can openly admit they're against gay marriage and not be ostracized and seen as evil?

I feel it's important and currently there is no show like that. In order for us to move forward each side needs to lay down their grievances with the other and really hash it out. I feel a network tv show could be a way to do that. People can feel their views being heard with others as well through characters they love and identify with.

Ex: A white cop who is a police officer who is against Black Lives Matter and what it stands for, but falls in love with a Black girl
A white woman who is a good person, but reports illegal immigrants because she believes in the law. However, her parents were illegal immigrants.
It's important to have internal conflict for each character, as well as the black characters.
