Education used to be valued by nearly everyone in the United States and other countries with a similar freedom.

However, some of largest criticisms of public education are the lack of parental support, less student interest, and less of need for a Bachelors degree to make good money on top of disrespect to teachers and a hit on everyone's taxes.

Still, some people still believe everyone should have a right to public education and it's up to the individual what they do with it.

So, the big question: Should a free public education continue to be a right?

I have a masters degree in a field that is completely unrelated to arts in general but recently (1 yr ago) I have started taking art classes in order to learn some basic principles and learn how to draw properly. I have improved my skills greatly so far, but it still doesn't seem like I know how to draw anything and I'm starting to think it's all for nothing. My goal is to get into gaming industry as an artist or to illustrate books, board games etc, so I'm not aiming to be a pro painter, but I still have doubts if I can make it. I don't have enough money or time to enter another college (even if I would really love to), because I have to work to pay my bills/food/clothing (I'm 26 now and I live alone in different city than my parents). I have to say that I'm VERY motivated and I draw a lot, but I always feel like formally educated artist will always have the advantage. Is there anyone who made it as a self-taught artist or do you think that formal education is a must? Is my lack of formal education an obstacle or is my motivation and hard work enough to get the job done? Please, share your experiences if you were/are in the same situation, how long did it take to master your skills? If you wish post some before/after work. Thanks!
