Search Results: changing positions

I graduated from college with a bachelor of chemistry a little less than a decade ago. However, I have never worked in a field that is specifically focused on chemistry. I've held a bunch of different positions: pharmacy technician, math and science tutor, substitute teacher, dental assistant... etc. I never really worked as a chemist specifically. However, I think that the knowledge and skills I gained from my chemistry training gave me skills in life that help me in my daily life.

For example, before going to college I was completely miserable in the kitchen, primarily because I have a diminished sense of taste (and smell). However, if you understand chemical titration, or organic synthesis, it's not very difficult to learn how to cook something. It gave me an appreciation for the level of skill and artistic ability of chefs (both formally and informally trained). I'm not really very good, but I'm definitely much, much better.

There are other aspects, like safety and preparedness, cost-effectiveness of purchases, efficiency in using materials, and safe use of medications.

A lot of professions and types of training may give you an edge in life compared to others. A nurse and a mechanic are very different, but both undergo exceptionally useful training and gain invaluable skills.

How useful is your degree, education, or training in your daily life? Has it changed your life considerably?

I've been thinking about this for the last 2 weeks & can't decide what is best to do & i though i could use some extra help here.

First i'm 27 & have 2 years experience in the IT field, used to work as a sales person before, and used to change my job almost every 1 year & a half.

So. Currently i work as an IT officer/manager in a company, i work alone in that department, with a very low salary, below expectations.

I used to work before as an IT assistant in a hospital for 2 years. I had a slightly better salary, & was too comfortable in my job in the last year.
But i though that there isn't any way to move on in my career in terms of position & salary in the hospital, so i though it is time to change & try to learn new & more stuff and have more experience elsewhere, so i can have the chance to develop more my CV & experiences, before settling down in any company later in my career.

So i've started searching & had interviews in many companies until this one i work for now.
First impression about the conpany was really good. The work schedule is good, and the staff environment are friendly & helpful, HR & GM told me that i have the chance with them to move in both terms of salary & position later in my career.
So i've waited for the employment offer. The salary was very low, i've called the HR department to consider the salary they offered me & they said that this is the final offer, but they promised me that i will have a raise of 100$ after the 3 month trial.

So i have decided to accept their offer in these terms. & though about it that this is the best way to help me move higher in my career, even though the salary was still at least 200$ below expectations.

The first day i came to start my new job. I was told the old IT person in my position was fired a week before, & there is no one to handover & tell me anything about the job.
