Women as a general for the most part need the media and women around them to tell them if a man is attractive. This comes in the form of girl approval and is the ultimate deciding factor if a woman will want you for ONS, or a relationship.

Girl approval comes about because female gender is highly competitive. Quote take from a woman:

So when a woman is deciding whether to get with you she needs to know that her friends and women around you are a catch. You can be a great guy on paper and boyfriend/lover for her but if her friends and/or women around her say your a loser then she's going to say your not a catch.
We see similar instances of girl approval in club settings when men just happen to approach the wrong woman for the first dance. If she flat out rejects him other women will be watching and basically your chances of getting a dance with another girl is greatly reduced. 2 or 3 more times and your basically looked at as a weirdo/loser in the club by women who is defective.
Girl approval can also work when we look at you getting rejected by a woman initially only to get an even hotter woman to be your girlfriend.
This was the quote taken by a female on gag as to why women would now consider chasing and wanting to be with you after that. This was the reason made by a female "Girls trust other girls' taste."

Women are also heavily influence by what media tells them is hot. Take 2 ugly guys but are actors and put them in a blockbuster movie and suddenly their sex symbols.

Key here is "really hot" amd "highly sought after".

Im the guy version and I think at "that" level, guys have it way easier. The amount of attention I get and instant social status with respect from people i meet wherever i go is awesome. I also get to choose which girls i interact with, and theyre usually excited when i talk to them, or theyre giving clear inviting signs to go talk them before i approach.

But imagine what the girl equivalent to that would be, instead of getting heavily checked out, getting hit on by straight foward girls, and always getting inviting signals from girls, getting to choose who i want to interact with..

it would be every time you go out you get hit on a lot by some random guys whos probly not cute or dont want. You will likely get stalkers and creepers. you're also more vulnerable if you run into a weirdo. When you go to a club guys hit on you non stop. I feel girls would be more uncomfortable being stared at all the time. I feel a girl would probably not enjoy guys staring at her chest, butt, and crotch like a lot of girls openly stare at my croutch or muscles.
