I think it would concern a lot of men in the sense that it might throw off the dynamic because I thought about that before too. Men provide and women are taken care of and gender roles in a sense are pretty natural. I don't need money to make me feel dominant or confident as a man in a relationship. If you do rely on your income to feel some sense of dominance within a relationship, then you're not truly dominant for the fact that you have to reach for external resources to make you feel dominant when true dominance and confidence in a relationship is internal. My sense of masculinity isn't defined by my income. It's so much more than that. The only thing that would turn off a girl in this situation is if she saw you relied on things like this to feel like a man... because then she would see you for who you actually are which is weak. Anyone agree with me?

Here's the thing: gender ROLES are definitely social and cultural constructs, even if they're influenced by biology. Men and women in different countries and cultures are generally taught and encouraged to behave in certain ways. Even with an increase in equality between men and women, there are certain occupations that are heavily dominated by either men or women.

Gender itself, however is a different matter.

I've heard some say that gender itself is a social construct. Really? Seriously? I believe that gender and sex are the same thing. With very few and legitimate exceptions, you're either male, or female.

I am curious about what the rest of the G@G community thinks.
