I'm not really sure whether this should go in Health and Fitness or Other, but yeah.

I'm going to be starting my Gold DofE this summer, and I'm not sure on what to do for my physical aspect. My mum wants me (and expects me so far) to go swimming on Sunday mornings. She wants that because it's easy to drop me off and pick me up at the local leisure centre- I'm there on Monday nights anyway.

I would be okay with swimming- I'm a good swimmer and I'm pretty sure it's quite good for you compared to other sports (just assuming here). But for a while now I've been wanting to try a new sport, besides swimming, cycling or rock climbing. Something exciting, and possibly something I could continue with at university.

This may just be my inner nerd coming out here, but I've always wanted to try archery or fencing, particularly the latter, as it uses more of your body than archery. I think my mum would try to steer me away from anything other than swimming, as it's easier for her to just take me swimming, but I feel as if, because the DofE is such a good excuse to try new things, if I don't try something new now, I may never get a chance as good as this again.

There's also rowing. My school gym has about 6 rowing machines, and I used them a few times when going to the school gym was compulsory. Needless to say I really enjoyed it, and it's a full body exercise. I would go back into the school gym and row in PE, but it's full of fuckboys who would probably kick/pressure me out :/ I know I could easily find somewhere to start rowing outdoors (plenty of rivers in the fair south!) and that would be a really good way to enjoy myself. It's partly why I go cycling- I live in/around lots of forest, so I can just wander around and explore in my break halfway through. The only problem with rowing is that it would probably be the most expensive, but again I'm just assuming here.

A little over a week ago, I'd say 10 days, I had started taking Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class as well as Muay Thai class and so far I've lost 15 lbs (still have at least 80 more to go). While I am enjoying myself and am losing a lot of weight, I want to be able to shed fat and build muscle before my classes and during the weekends when I don't have class.

I was considering Planet Fitness because of what they charge vs what they offer, which looks VERY good on paper, but I've come across a disturbing number of bad reviews online for Planet Fitness.

Then I was considering Gold's Gym for the same reasons: They offered a lot of perks for a seemingly cheap monthly price. But just like with Planet Fitness, Gold's Gym also had a shit load of bad reviews online.

I'm still new to the whole gym/bodybuilding scene, so I don't really know what gyms are out there. I had considered Planet Fitness and Gold's Gym because of their pricing, what they offer, and the fact that they're both like 10 minutes away from where I live. In fact they're right across the street from each other. But since I am now cynical of them, I need help finding a better (and more importantly, affordable) gym.

Those who go to the gym fairly often, could you please tell me which gym you go to or would recommend and why? Also please state or provide a link to that gym's pricing and hours if you can. By the way I live in Central Florida, so no out of state gyms.
