I know I should talk to her, but it's really hard. We come from very different backgrounds. She is from a small religious town and I'm from a big city. I think it's cool that she's from a little town and lives on a farm with her entire family (yes, aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins). They live in separate houses, but all on the same plot of land if that makes sense. I think it's kind of cool.

Anyways, I have no problem with her background, but she really seems to hate mine and she loves to put me down about it. I am so tired of it.

For example, I don't go to mass every weekend which to her is a really big problem. We're in college and she's upset because she doesn't have anyone to marry, I say go date around and she gets upset and says she should be getting married and blah blah. Then she goes on about "what's wrong with me, I can't find a guy" blah blah. We're only 21 years old...

She's also very judgmental about my background. My parents are "older." I say it's okay to get married from 28-whenever and she thinks that's old and I think that "because of the way I was raised." She makes awkward comments about how "oh you know who the Beatles are because your parents are from that generation." She seems to think country music is the new rock music? I'm just tired of the "you're a hippy," "you're a fake catholic," "your parents are old" comments. She gets so much happiness out of saying it too.

Even comments about how my mom is the disciplinarian in the family and in most families it's the dad and that's apparently "weird." She also puts my family down by saying that the only reason I have manners is because my family sat down to family dinners while hers was so engrossed in sports they didn't have time and my family just must not be the sporty type. We played sports too.. but it's not a requirement like it is her family.

I visited her house once. It was awkward. Her younger brother was telling his girlfriend not to eat certain food so she wouldn't get fat. his parents said nothing! Who says that to a teenage girl? I was horrified. He also tried to be all macho and drive at us with his four wheeler to see how scared we'd get. It was like something out of a bad movie.

I grew up in a city... we didn't make fun of gay people or call people fat at my school. At hers, they definitely did that kind of stuff. If you weren't perfect and skinny at her school, you were NOT cool. Nerds, NOT cool. My school? Nerds were awesome and everyone had their own unique talents. They didn't HAVE to be in sports because they were guys like it seems to be in her small town.

Idk what to do about this one. I'm kind of at the end of the line. Not sure if I want to continue the friendship anymore. Thoughts?

This doesn't necessarily apply to teen mothers under the age of 18. I mean mothers who are in the early 20s to 40s.

Guys: Would you date a single mother? Or will feel that the stress of her being a mother will take away from the intimate time that you and her would have?

My step-father for example dated my mother for 4 years after asking her to marry him. They have a pretty stable relationship and balance things out like any other married couple. He loved kids so me and him were close when I was younger and they had my brother who is now 13.

I asked a group of guys on my college campus how they'll feel dating a single mother and their responses were horrendous. Probably because I expected something different. Majority of them said that they WOULD NOT date a single mother because they'll assume that she is a "slut" or "can't keep her legs closed". Those statements bothered me in so many ways. To assume that if a young woman gets pregnant she is automatically a "dirty slut" is like stereotyping single moms.

While the other group of guys said that they wouldn't care. They would date a woman based on how beautiful she is, her intelligence and the funniest one was her skills in bed.

That was me asking a young crowd of guys most under 30 years old.
