There are quite a few beliefs that people hold just because they learned it at an earlier age, or maybe even because they just don't want to think differently about some things.

Examples could include, the idea that males and females can never be friends without one of them wanting to be all over the other. Or that women shouldn't have been educated, because this makes it more difficult to create a family where the man is the sole provider, and his partner no longer needs to depend on him. Or that religious books are accurate depictions of human history, and everything within the Bible did happen and is true and reality.

It is difficult to even attempt to debate these, as "beliefs" are nothing but things you accept as information that you think is unconditionally true, and cannot be false. By that notion, if you ever say "the Bible is not proof to the validity of Christian religion because it is just a book" (yes, you can apply this to any other Abrahamic religion if you want), people claim you are "disrespecting the belief of those that think that is true".

I think there is no such thing as "disrespecting beliefs". Tradition does not validate concepts as if they were immutable facts. Customs don't provide a reason to accept them dogmatically.

I think what we have is people who hold onto the views they learned so tightly, that even hearing any other possible alternative feels like an attack on their "individuality" and "identity". But discussions aren't inherently antagonistic. Disagreements are not verbal harassment.
