Background: I’ve been spending time with a new guy for a little over a month now, getting to know each other. When he picked me up for a date, I noticed a custom trinket that he has hanging from his rear view mirror. I looked at it closely and it had a “drive safe” message engraved with a girl’s name and a heart on it. I asked him about it and he said it was from his ex.

I was taken aback because I don’t personally keep gifts from exes, especially something that seems sentimental. He told me a bit about her and that things didn’t necessarily end on a bad note, they just ended up wanting different things but they’re cool with each other. Jokingly I told him that he probably still has feelings for her, then he told me if that were the case, we wouldn’t be seeing each other.

I only ever really hear about issues with women keeping jewelry from exes but out of curiosity for the men, is keeping something like this, a custom gift that you probably look at regularly, a big deal? Or this probably means nothing?

So like a normal couple my husband and I we talk about everything, including his work, he works in this small company, he only have male co workers, and there’s only 1 girl that works there and she’s the secretary, well a couple of times that he talked to me about his job he talks about her, he told me that he thinks that he is her “favorite”, that he will be really “angry” if they fired her, and now he show me a picture of her making our daughter a hand made gift.. so I really don’t know what’s going on there. A married woman and a married man having a “weird” to close relationship? Maybe.
