They tend to think they can ignore or treat what they think are lower status people like shit when they feel its convenient, and other times talk to them like a normal person. All while thinking theyre being friends with them or that they should be on good terms.

For instance, a guy says "I like this dude, he's cool but kinda weird, I'll just kind of ignore him at school (or where ever they don't want to be seen with them), and I'll just talk to him and hangout outside of school (or other place/situation where theyd be okay being seen with them)

Or they claim to be someone's friend but wouldn't want to communicate with them in person , text, or social media while they communicate with their other friends that way. Or they consider being involved in someone's life "only" on something distant like social media but wouldn't respond to a text from them , even when they reguarly text their friends, or would even avoid them in person "and" still say their friends.

I've only seen this behavior from people that were "popular" or were accepted as "popular" and chose not to hangout with the popular kids.

A lot of the time they dont think their doing anything wrong and get offended or sad when the person their treating like shit doesn't want to talk to them, or hang out with them, or lets them know their "not" on good terms.

Even their friends who aren't directly doing it usually dont see a problem with it. They might make a face but thats all they do, then they just keep talking to them like nothing happened.

This is what I've seen from high school even into adulthood , at least to 26 years old.

not all do but most tend to passively ignore it like it was nothing when their friends do it or they do it themselves
