I think people put too much emphasis on the word, itself, so it doesn't really hold as intense of a meaning for me. Like, "Oh, I love pizza. Oh, I love that movie. And, I'm TOTALLY in love with hot cheetos." Hyperbole aside, it seems weird to put such a huge emphasis on the word 'love' with a romantic partner, when it's used to describe affection towards many trivialities.

We should make up a new word that means "intense affection or love for a romantic partner." Like squiddle-doodle or some amalgamation of 'favorite person' favorison or perrite. Or something or another. (Let me know some other ones) Like those Greek guys with 5-6 different words for different kinds of love.

Anyways. Do you/would you?

Also, do you think the first person whom says 'I love you' loses any power or control they might have had earlier in the relationship?

I was over at a friends house and his nephew (7 years old) was there and I was talking to the little guy and he was telling me how he was going to go over to his dads dads house down in New Mexico. I was a bit confused because we were in his grandpas house on his dads side and we weren't in New Mexico, and then he said no my other dad. I then said, oh you mean your step-dad. After I said that he had the most confused look on his face and had no idea what a step-dad was. So, I was like.. oh your other dad.. and he goes yeah... his dad lives in New Mexico.. and we carried on conversation from there.

Afterwords I was talking to my friend about that and how if my son was to say that I would be kind of pissed off that he was calling my ex's new husband dad. Especially if I were to be with him several days a week every week (shared custody) as his real dad is. (meaning I could understand if his real father wasn't in his life but he hangs with his real dad all the time)

My friend said that that would piss him off as well and that my friend and my friends dad have both tried telling the kid that the other guy is his step-dad not his dad.

I was wondering, would that bother/annoy/piss you off or would you not care? I'm not asking from a childs viewpoint.. I'm asking from a parent view point. How would you feel if your child called your ex's new spouse mom or dad vs step-mom/step-dad (depending on if you're the mom or dad) when you are actively in your childs life.

And just to note, he does call his real dad, dad, as well. He refers to them both as dad, unless he's in the presence of his dad in which case he would say his other dad when talking about the other dad...
