A law proposed by Italy's center-right political party Forza Italia would charge parents with neglect, a sentence that could lead to up to a year of jail time, if they force their children to eat a vegan diet.

The bill, proposed by Italian parliament member Elvira Savino, states: "There is no objection if the person making this choice is an informed adult. The problem arises when children are involved... The vegetarian or vegan diet is, in fact, deficient in zinc, iron, vitamin D, vitamin B12 and omega-3." (On Vegan diets, no meat, dairy, or eggs are allowed which the bill argues could and does create long term effects of the health of the children as they grow up).

This comes after several cases in the last 18 months of malnourished children being hospitalized in Italy as a result of a vegan diet, according to the BBC. Italy has the highest population of vegetarians in the EU, at 10 percent. For comparison, in the U. S., seven percent of adults identify as vegan. Whether or not veganism is appropriate for babies and young children is a hotly debated subject, but improving public education around nutrition might be a better option than sending parents of young kids to prison. I'm not a vegan or vegetarian and have no plans to become one anytime soon but there's been a few times where I've been eating meat and felt disgusted. Usually it's because something was off, not that anything was wrong with the food in particular but I just didn't like the smell or the texture within that moment. Anyone else been disgusted by meat even though they're a meat eater?

A debate has broken out over an upcoming wedding. Neither the bride and groom drink for their own reasons (it's not for religious reasons). As such, they've decided not to serve alcohol at their wedding that is happening in the evening. Some of both of their respective families believe that they need to think about their guests and their need/want to have a good time vs. just banning it outright because they don't drink. They've even arrgued (quite hilariously) with them that they are providing vegetarian meals for the 3 vegetarians coming vs. just telling them to eat meat with everyone else, so what's the big deal. The grooms family has even offered to pay for the drinks themselves if need be, but the bride/groom have declined.
