This has been playing on my mind over the last couple of days, the beebs recently put on a documentary about the likelihood of the United Kingdom having a black person as a Prime Minister.

It was an interesting documentary, it really was, but it was also very leading. Everything was to do with the colour of a persons skin.

*I can't remember all of the exact figures used, but the ones given are close enough to give you an impression of the issue and points made*

It looked at the odds of a black person getting into Oxbridge, bearing in mind these are possibly the two greatest universities in the world. The odds weren't great.

The point that stood out to me was that 7% off the population is black (all though no age range data was used). These Universities have 12% Black students. They commented on the fact that it was more likely for a white person with three A's was more likely to get in than a Black person with three A's. At face value this is a tragic fact. They believe that most admission staff went for people of there own race. Also a startling fact.

The thing that annoyed me was that one, the percentage of Black people in these Universities is higher than the percentage of black people in the UK. Surely that is something to be applauded? Equally no comment was put on the area people grew up in. The only comment around economic variables was that 80% of the students were from 6 'elite' collages. The odds of people getting in from these collages was around 28%. The odds of someone from outside was around 4%. This sounds quite daming I know, but when you consider that the people who go to these collages have most of there education aimed at getting them into Oxbridge.

So, my question is,

In this day and age, in the Western World, I'd never get married- for a man, there's no absolutely nothing to gain, and everything to lose from the institution of marriage. But having looked at the options, emigrating to Chad struck me as an option which could well have some merit. According to the WEF, it's the fourth most male-dominated nation on Earth, but it's considerably less Islamic than Yemen, Pakistan and Syria, and more Christian (41%) than any of the others in the top 10. And yes, it does have several issues- high poverty rates, high levels of illiteracy, and the world's worst mobile phone and internet connectivity. Chad also criminalized both male and female same-sex sexual activity in the past year, and such acts can now be punished by 15 to 20 years in prison- though as one of the world's more corrupt nations, bribes would presumably go a very long way. However, it's politically stable, and in the midst of an economic boom, with the Chinese investing heavily in a new rail network and the development of its massive oil reserves.

And Chad also has some of the world's highest birth rates, a high female-male sex ratio, and the world's best marriage laws from a male perspective. Chadian marital laws automatically permit polygamy unless both spouses specify that this is unacceptable upon marriage (with 39% of women in Chad living in harems), with each wife's family offering dowries to pay the groom, and all women are required to reimburse their dowries, along with all cohabitation expenses, as alimony if they choose to initiate divorce proceedings. In Chad, men also have sole parental authority over their children (with mothers only able to get custody of a child up to the age of 6 in the case of divorce). Consent is not required in marriages. And to cap it all off, Chad also has an implicit age of consent of only 13. So, what do you think of Chad's patriarchy? Would you consider emigrating there? And what would you think of a guy who did?
