Some background: I used to have very strong feelings for a guy. Around the end of last school year, he began dating this girl from our school's play production. Seeing this as my cue to get over him, I did; they broke up earlier this school year.

I am very confused about his behavior now. Ever since I have been trying to stay away from him, he behaves like I'm hurting him. Initially I thought this meant he had lingering feelings; however, whenever I have tried to approach him, he has usually been either cold or disinterested. This leads me to stray away again (after feeling slightly heartbroken), only to see him get into another of these moods when I become happy again. (At first I wondered if he could just be having a bad day, but I am noticing an uncanny pattern here.)

I have noticed body language cues when he gets this way, such as a flushed face, touching hair a lot, foot pointed in my direction, very long/short eye contact (I feel kind of creepy talking about all this haha), aside from his general glumness.

The main source of doubt in all this is his relationships with other girls. He has treated a couple girls this year as if he "conventionally" likes them (i. e. hanging around, acting all shy-and-cute, etc.), which leads me to believe he has no feelings for me... then this sort of behavior happens and I'm left feeling dazed and confused.

So far, I have narrowed my options down; he could be
- repressing feelings; he likes me and does not want to,
- simply using me; he likes that I like him and his ego gets bruised when it's torn away, or
- my mind is going crazy and I am overthinking this.
