Few years ago I met this guy
Right from the start I noticed this guy kept staring my way. By the end of the year,I was convinced he was somewhat interested. But he had a gf. So also thought maybe this was just a game to him.

when the year ended, I realized I liked him and kept in touch. It was very friendly. Then he had a kid and he would send me pic and keep me informed.

As time went by, I chose to let him go and never contact him again. I was going through a rough time. After a year and a half though, he asked for news and informed me of his break up.
When I heard the news, all my feelings came back. But he started to be distant, would not answer for weeks although he kept the conversation going with open questions. I thought it was because he had been honest about things one is usually reluctant about. Then I told him how I would have been pleased to see him as it had been a really long time and he replied by mentioning how we were going to not live that far.
when I asked if that meant we could meet, he did not reply for a month. he then told me he was busy with work and his new long distance girlfriend.
I told him I also was in a long distance relationship and kept things friendly but I could sense sth was different. He did give me his number though (I had lost it) and said I was welcome in his town.

But I got tired of holding it. I told him it made me sad to know I won't see him again and that I thought of him, and that it annoyed me.
His reply was surprising, he was kind of distant, said he found it nice to share news and updates to see how time went fast and that he found it pleasant to leave it up to fate whether old classmate meet again. He said if I didn't want to speak to him, I simply had to stop writing to him.
I clarified by replying I liked hearing from him and got "ok evrth is alright then" with a smiley face !
I had thought he at least appreciated me as a but it turns out we're just “old classmates” <br

It was all friendly, he would give me news and I did too. Then he had a kid and he sent me pics of the echography, kept me informed,and once his child was born he sent me pics of the birth and all. I thought he at least considered me a friend.
As time went by,I realized I had deeper feelings for him so I chose to let him go and never contacted him again. I was going through something dificult and sort of closed myself too. After a year and a half though, he asked for news and informed me of his break up with his baby mother.
I was happy to hear from him and he seemed so too. When I heard the news, all my feelings went back. I kept in touch for a few years witht his guy I had a crush on. At the time I thought he was interested but anyway, he was taken, we both moved away etc... As our lives went on I learned to just deal with the fact that he was with someone else in a very serious relationship and only kept int ouch with in a friendly way the way acquainance would.
But few months ago, he tells me how he's broken upwih his gf and all my feelings came back. I tried to hint we should see each other and he seemed eager to but I got no reply for a while. He then told he was busy with his new gf.
I brushed it off and tried to still be friendly as I used to be but he got rather distant (took a lot of time to reply...which he never used to do).
So after a while, since all of this was causing me some pain I decided I'd be honest. I told him I was sad I'd never get to see him again, and that I thought of him.
His reply was kind of confusing. He said he found it pleasant to leave it up to fate whether we'd meet again (how am I supposed to understand it? is it a way to politely say, I habe no intention of meeting with you unless I bump into you?) and then got rathe rude, saying how if I ddin't want to talk to him, all I had to do was not write to him. ( and I never mentioned that it pissed me off to talk to him). I thought he didn't understand that I was trying to tell him I liked him so all I did was clear the issue out by mentioning I liked hearing from him. All of this was brushed off by a "everthing is alright then".

And since hen I haven't asked for news or else. But it's gonna be his birthday soon and I wonder if maybe I should wish him, or if overall this changes everything .
I really don't want to come off as desperate or as that girl that can't let go. Especialy as I am not expecting anything.
