Hypothetical story: You’re online dating, and a female writes to you, showing a bit of interest. You then exchange numbers, and start texting, infrequently, as you’re both busy with work, life etc.

You then start talking on the phone.

Due to the infrequency of communication, she asks whether you want to keep communicating or not. You state that you do, and suggest either another phone call, or a coffee. She chooses the phone call over the coffee, saying it is easier for her at this stage (the real unknown reason being that she wants to figure him out a bit more first - make sure that he’s safe and normal). Another few weeks go by, of infrequent texts (occasionally 3 texts in a day, and sometimes 3 days in between texts, and occasional phone calls, lasting 1, sometimes 2 hours).

In this situation, if the woman does really want to meet the guy, what should she do?

(She wants to show interest, however doesn’t want to come across as too forward, and scare him away).

Ask him out to a coffee?

Point out how long they’ve been communicating for, and point out that they’re becoming like pen friends? And ask him how he feels about that?

Drop a hint that she’s free next weekend?

Do nothing, stop contacting him, and see if he starts pursuing her more?

I'm rather interested in this guy I met on an app and we've been trying to set up a meet but schedules and work commitments got in the way. Our availability has freed up right now, and he's been quite persistent in getting a date (asking, keeping in touch etc.)

But I had a really weird dating experience last week that honestly freaked me out and made me quite uncomfortable with the idea of meeting a stranger online. The initial phases of us trying to set up dates was when his schedule was the problem. As of recently, it's been all me.

Following that really uncomfortable experience, I'm not in the right state of mind to meet but I'd still like to keep this connection open till things. Should I be open with him and explain that negative experience? I am hoping he'd be understanding and be cool with me reaching out down the road.

Or would most guys think that's ridiculous and just write me off? We've been speaking on and off for about 7 weeks now..
