What do you think of the trend of editing photos to meet an unrealistic beauty standard?

Can you tell if a picture is heavily edited, lightly edited, has a filter, or has nothing done to it? I feel like it's unnecessary. A lot of the time people who edit to this extreme are already beautiful.
