I've had friends telling me to get out there and won't seem to accept that I'm not ready to date right now. They tell me if I wait until I'm ready, I'll never date. I don't see how I can be romantic, engage in small talk that is exciting, or put in any of the other effort to make the early part of dating work when I'm naturally very introverted and feeling miserable. I also don't see how someone I'm attracted to would be interested in me as I present myself right now.

What gives me pause is I've been this way for several years now. I've sought treatment which has largely been ineffective. I'd like to build a family at some point and I'm not getting any younger. Am I just being defeatist? Is this something I'm just going to have to deal with? Do any depressed men out there have advice about getting motivated enough to try and "woo" people on dates and being able to be light romantic and fun while feeling miserable and wanting to be alone?
