I realised I have been spending way too much money on items I don’t really use or need that often. I always get distracted whenever I go shopping, instead of only planning to buy soap, I bought a certain cute hair accessory which I ended up regretting for spending money on since I don’t really need it in the long run. Whenever there’s sales I also ended up buying clothes I didn’t really like. During New Year’s Eve my family will have this spring cleaning where we do full house cleaning and throwing away things we don’t really need. Shockingly I ended up throwing away tons of stuffs which added up to more than $500. All of those items were cheap, it ranges from $2 to $10. I was disappointed with my useless unnecessary spending. I could have save those money for something more important like travelling, donation to those in need, paying the bills. I decided to become a minimalist at 20, I always have a habit of only buying essential items without feeling the urge to buy new things unless I really need it.

Up till now at 24, I never throw away any items which was a big improvement. It’s not easy but it can be done, it’s all about self control and discipline. It’s not about throwing all of your things, it’s about being contented with what you have rather than get upset about what you don’t have. If you find some items you didn’t want to use either donate it or throw it away. If it’s in excellent condition you can sell them too. Whenever I was attracted to something “fancy” I ask myself these 4 questions:

1: Do I really need it?

2: Am I buying it to impress others or for myself?

3: is it worth the money spend?

4: how often will I really use it? (This is the most important)

I understand it’s not easy to go from someone who has tons of items to a minimalist but I managed to become a minimalist, I became more relaxed, happy, less chores to do and it makes cleaning much easier.

My office is very relaxed, most people wear jeans and some basic tops. I have been there only for few months so I have yet to see what they usually wear in the summer. I like this kind of dresses. This dress is really pretty, the color is very soft and suits me (not me in the pic though).

It's above the knee for me. Do you think it's acceptable then?
ALSO, any ideas of how else to style it except with basic low sneakers? What accessories, hairstyle etc... Thanks! :)

I considered myself to be a little bit materialistic. I don’t like fakes, my handbags cost less than $100, I love to spend $1400 on a sapphire, but I’m not interested in labels. I avoided brands like Chanel, Tory Burch, LV, and many others. I don’t mind spending around $100 on outfits, shoes and accessories. I avoided things that cost $200 or more but jewellery like gemstones are exceptions. I don’t plan to have a collection of gemstones, pearls and other pricey necklaces. Most of my necklaces cost $3 each the most expensive being a few hundred bucks which I only had 3 but 10 of my necklaces cost $3.

I’m one of those working adults who hates spending way too much money. I didn’t buy contact lens because quality dailies like Acuvue cost 65SGD to 90SGD for 30 lenses that means you have to buy two boxes. I don’t buy makeup, luxury bags and accessories, go to facials, spas or massages. I detest getting my nails painted at a nail salon and I stopped dying my hair and will never consider plastic surgery. I noticed Dorcas uses makeup, fake lashes, contacts, had an expensive handbag, dyes her hair at a salon because it’s never easy to dye your own hair and she earns somewhere from 2000SGD to 2500SGD. I think she spends around 5045SGD to 6500SGD on wants per year I could be wrong tho. I would only buy outfits if my clothes have holes in them and will only buy a new phone every 5 or 6 years. For me I calculated my wants spending per year it’s only 300SGD. I’m not against people who spend a lot of money as long as they have savings for their old age and emergency. It’s no good if you’re spending way too much money until you don’t have enough for yourself.
