I tried to get into grad school twice and worked my butt off for professors as a unpaid assistant for 1-2 years. Still I got rejected twice and one of the recommendation letters I read afterward was extremely lukewarm about me.

Now that it's 6 years later I have my dream job and no longer dream about PhD. I think back on those incidents and think about unhelpful professors are to life in general. They take so much of your money and time and don't sympathize with you at all. As a group they are so desensitized from real life! They don't seem to care that the majority of us students have to worry about making money and getting our lives along at a decent timeline!

I also had another professor that wouldn't shut up about how he thought about Trump even though the class was on microbiology! Why do professors think we care about their political opinion?
