I got a text from a friend the other day asking me if I'd go to with her to the grocery store to pick some things up. And when I asked why, because she was "wasn't in the mood to deal with a bunch of catcalls" and having a man with you apparently prevents this 100%.

And it honestly kind of floored me a little. I asked for clarification, and she told me that every time she needs to go out and get something, she gets catcalled in parking lots, or guys approach her and try to hit on her, and "It's like, I'm just trying to go about my day and get stuff done. I don't want to deal with having to reject a bunch of random guys."

Apparently this happens all the time, and it happens regardless of how she's dressed. She says that she often goes out in baggy sweats, an old T-shirt and messy hair with no makeup, specifically to try to discourage guys from approaching, but they do it anyway.

As a guy, I'm pretty sure I've approached women in random places before, but it's rare. If I'm out and about, it's usually because ~I~ need to get something done, and the last thing on my mind is trying to scope out women to hit on.

I think most of the time, when I approach a woman, it's hasn't been a cold approach. I've usually already been introduced, or we've met through some sort of mutual event or ~something~ where we've had the opportunity to engage in conversation. I've never been a player of the "numbers game".

Anyway, I think she's fairly attractive in general, but I certainly wouldn't call her stunning, and especially not when she's dressed down with no makeup.

And because I'm pretty sure someone's going to bring this up, she does have a boyfriend that she's really, really into, so she's definitely not just trying to make some excuse to hang out with me for that. We just happened to share the same day off.
