My parents opened ones for me and my brothers in case one thing ever happened to them so we would have money, separate from the life insurance money, for college and accessible only for the one individual. Then in it was left for grad school or a house when we didn't have to use it.

I have other friends with larger trusts and only one of them that wasn't worse for having it and worked hard. One of my good friends from college used it as guy bait. She knew she had it growing up and she didn't try in college. She never tried hard to get a good job and was even unemployed for years, partying and living rent free in a condo her Mom previously leased out to tenants. Her Mom is a very good woman who is highly educated and has dedicated her life to educating and helping the poor.

Basically her daughter is her nightmare scenario. She only finally got a job so this guy without a penny in the bank would marry her and he only married her because she had the money to put 20% down on a house. I can't help but think if I'm to put money aside for my kids the wouldn't know about it unless I died or had accomplished much and we're ready to buy a house.

I would want my kids to have to have the drive to accomplish much and not feel as if they don't have to because life is taken care of. I almost feel it is unfair to a child to not let them overcome their own struggles.

I know for me personally in my twenties when I realized I was an adult and had struggles at first supporting myself right out of college I was so poor looking back but soooo proud. The first crappy apartment I paid for myself, the first couch I bought myself. I wouldn't have worked so hard if everything was taken care of for me. I did work hard and five years later I was making three times as much.

Now I look at my friends that were just as smart and not really that lazy in school but they are lazy in life. They don't go after better positions because they feel it is below them to have to sell someone on hiring them. That they should be courted for jobs when they dont have a work history that would merit it.

I was a good kid. I was rarely spanked.

I mean I remember my mom pulling the car over to the side of the road one time because the sis and I were going at it in the back seat. That taught me nothing though because I still meddle with her.

I remember getting popped in the mouth for talking smart so I try to watch what I say now.

I remember getting beat with a belt because a girl kissed me. I wasn't even gay. We were kids playing house. Even if I were to think about going lesbo, that beating set me straight haha.

Other than that I wasn't really beat or anything. My mom would probably hit me if she found out i had sex back then. But thats exactly why she doesn't know now.

I've also been hit with a thin tree limb "switch" for some reason I can't remember.

I dont plan to hit my kids but if they do something seriously effed up, my helping hand will be there to give em a makeover. But Im not short tempered so this is unlikely.
