In my lifetime poverty started as early as my teen years (10-14).
I wouldn't get new clothing and shoes. I walked with torn shoes to school and home 'cause that's all I had. That plus my interest in computer science made me effectively a social outcast for the majority of my current life. I couldn't get a job and my parents received governmental welfare and didn't get me the things I needed. Although food wasn't a problem at that time.

After my parents did a series of poor choices (mother didn't work, father worked for low wage unofficially, traveled twice to the east in summer with the money, that we didn't have, got into snowballing debts...) they made the biggest of them in 2010. The killing blow was they took us all and moved from Germany to the poor east and settled in the middle of freaking nowhere far away from the city. I didn't know the language or anything about that other world.

I was 15 at that time. Then things hit pretty near rock bottom. No food, freezing winters, lethally hot summers, no clothing/shoes other than the 2 outfits I had. I became a popular victim of the bullies in school.
Toothpaste and soap was kind of a luxury for me as well as food. Sometimes slightly molded food was all I had to eat.
That all changed as soon as I got a job when I was 22 years old and got myself on my own feet.

Needless to say I had no influence on that matter, so it wasn't my fault. I am actively working on returning to the 1. st world countries. My parents are done.
