I vaguely remember an expression from long ago now, from early 2020, the months March to June or July. How did it go again? Oh yes - "flattening the curve". We were told that all we had to do was put up with a little inconvenience for a couple of months (at most), in order to ensure our hospitals weren't overwhelmed, and our doctors and nurses over-worked. Then it would ALL be over! Yay!
Well, we did it. Didn't we? It's now August of 2021. What's taking so long? Helloooo... ? When will we be released from home detention, when will we be able to live our lives again? Never? Is this the "new normal" now? Are these stupid questions?

I’ve been at my job in career services for about 3 months. Prior to this, I worked as an academic advisor for two years. This is now my 2nd job in higher ed, regardless of how bad I am at it I do enjoy it. I was initially hired with another person as the dept is meant for two people but she quit after two weeks.

To this day I still get corrections, on corporate calls when we discuss placements I feel like I am drilled by my boss (justifying our placement rates). Yet last week, we had someone from corporate actually visit on site and spoke with them about an hour. My boss and her director (he’s quite the talker) were saying that since I’ve been here, this is the most she’s seen from students engaging in quite some time and how I’m excelling, a good fit etc.

Then why all this do this and do that or do it this way instead or no that’s wrong etc? I think I have my 90 day review soon and plan to voice these concerns. At my last job, I gave myself the wiggle room to make more mistakes and have a learning curve because I was brand new to the field. Now that this is my second in higher edu, just different depts. this shouldn’t be happening. Starting to think it isn’t a good fit.

I’ve really had it and just want to find a job I excel at. I was an academic advisor for 2 years and started another job in career services 3 months ago. I left the last job due to tension with people and just feeling like I wasn’t adequate enough. Every month or few weeks, I got corrections. I’d be good for a small time and then bam things would come out of the woodworks.

I started this job three months ago and felt a little bit more confident in the beginning. The job is meant for two people but I’ve been handling it until they find a replacement (with help of course). I feel as of recently, I’ve been getting more corrections, I almost cried today because I felt overwhelmed before a presentation.

My boss told me I was doing well earlier this week but if I am, why has she been giving me suggestions and corrections daily? This job has forced me out of my comfort zone, I’m still very quiet but feel I was a little more interactive compared to my last job.

I’m very upset and felt like walking out today. Am I unrealistic of learning curves or just how leadership deals with their staff? Or is it time to consider a new career path? I’m on the ditzy side 😶
