Recently I started a relationship with a guy, who has the same long-term views as me. We are looking (and hoping) to do long-term (think marriage). My ex partner is still part of my life as we share custody of our kids. Little background, on my ex and I; he was/is a very abusive person towards me. Our relationship lasted 10+ years, in which hitting me and creating a environment of pure hostility was the norm. I constantly feared for my life and several police reports were made. During my hell I made a long distance relationship that lasted 5 years. It was very emotional and we only got the chance to meet once. I am forever grateful for him as he saved me from the falling of into depression and suicidal thoughts.
Anyways, our separation was due to a variety of things and the fact that I had grown deep resentment and hate for him due to years of abuse.

I want to start clean with my current partner, and I do admit I am somewhat paranoid this may come out later on. I dont want him to feel I am hiding something. My communication with my LD "friend" ended and I eliminated all his contact info.
Another part of me also feels, the past is the past. What do you think?

My mother is not a nice woman (neither was her mother nor her mother's mother). All of them are narcissistic petty self-centered individuals who, due to their own lack in a way, can only feel good about themselves when making others feel down. They've all said nasty hurtful things - to the degree my mother's siblings would have little to do with their mother during her dying months. Anytime there's peace & quiet my mother just has to start something & 95% of the time I'm the victim of her emotional/verbal abuse (even if, by rights, either of my brothers do the same damn thing).

As an example today she just mentioned while helping her with the laundry I look like a balloon due to my stomach. Yes, I am overweight but I happen to carry my weight very well (most people assume I'm 30+ lbs lighter than I am). And the thing is, is if I was really a balloon I wouldn't be able to easily do situps (or if I wanted to be like her I could have pointed out that unlike her I can actually see my toes over my "balloon" stomach).

At one point I'd say no, it's not right to hate her. But back then I'd actually care if she lived or died. Nowadays I literally don't give a damn.

Is it lust, is it a bad relationship, is it abuse causing you to do it, is it because the deep emotional connection that you once had is gone, is it better sex?

Are you receiving the emotional connection you want if you are female, or if you are male, is it just the sex that you are getting out of it that you feel that you have to have?

Do you know anyone that has been involved in an affair? ... why did they do it?

I hate to admit it, but I have a girlfriend that has affairs behind her boyfriend's back with both guys and bi or lesbian girls. I hate that she does that and have told her that she is wrong to do this to her boyfriend. I think he knows she is doing it, but just tries to ignore it. I can not figure it out.
