For me the answer is both. I'm one of the lucky ADHDers. Getting A's was super easy... IF i tried. And I only tried when it was either an emergency or if I loved the subject. Only then would my superpower of hyperfocus kick in and I could learn an entire semester in one night.

It a topic bored me, I'd do the bare minimum. C was the lowest I would allow for myself. I never had a D or an F from kindergarten through college.

I wish I had been medicated, although I don't know if it would have helped.

I took Spanish in college and I dropped it. Foreign language just bored me. I didn't have the need or desire at the time. Got C's in High School Latin class. Hated it.

Although I speak Spanish now because I needed to learn it for work and I developed a strong desire to learn it. So my hyperfocus superpower kicked in and I studied on my own and am conversational now. No school, just bought books and audios and let my ADHD work its magic.

People are shocked because they remember me in school. But those with ADHD are not shocked by it. Not the ones that share the hyperfocus superpower. lol

Merit: A relationship should be based on a person's weaknesses with each partner compensating for one another regardless of the actual level of dependence. For instance a person with weak social skills may look for a partner with strong social skills focusing on eliminating that weakness.

Exchange: A relationship should be based on a person's strengths with each partner complimenting for one another regarding the allocation of duties. For instance a person with strong social skills would seek out someone with the same trait and then "take turns" or deliberate between the two who is best for the job.
