Do you think it's best if people make their own decisions, and keep their relationships private, or has the advice you've received helped you and your relationships?

In general, has venting been more of a positive or a negative?

Friends and family can be a sounding board, to listen and help you assess certain problems and issues that arise in your relationships. But they can be hugely influential. I have seen people give very strongly-worded advice, bad advice, and push the person/asker into doing something they might not have otherwise.

It's a difficult question to answer with just two choices, I know, because certain people are patient and therefore do give careful, well-thought-out, informed advice, while others have more of an impatient, smash and grab style to dishing out advice (i. e. they like to get on with it, and aren't around later to pick up the pieces, should their advice ultimately cause more problems.)

But I can't make the poll more elaborate, or it wouldn't be effective. So overall, is your takeaway that revealing secrets and very personal details about your relationships is okay/good/advice is good to get, or that it is quite often detrimental, because either the advice is bad, or that people you asked do not accept your decisions, become too invested, and tend to harbour resentment either to you, or your partner, refusing to be neutral with you or them, from that point on?

I'm sure there have been a lot of you on the receiving end of advice, or the partner of the person receiving advice, and suddenly your relationship is being impacted by people you barely know or have talked to.

I see a lot of people taking in what others think and say, and honestly, sometimes it makes me cringe. It's quite the power to wield.

Right now, if we were the Commenter, we get a notification in our Inbox saying whether it was the Asker or the System that chose MHOs, but:

1. It doesn't show this to other users, only to the person reading the notification.
2. Often times notifications get overlooked, or we click on it accidentally, or it gets marked as viewed, when we didn't see or read the information.
3. When you go back to questions and see them later, you don't know who chose them. You could be the Asker of the question, the Commenter, or a person just reading the question without commenting. No one knows, at that point, who the auto-generated MHOs are.
I suggest a simple icon or symbol that differentiates them.

- He’s either jobless or rich. And i dont mean jobless due to covid. Like a lot of dudes dont have degrees but also have no intentions of getting a job anytime soon. Like nahh.. you’re cute but we won't work. The rich dudes are on a powertrip and think they can get anything out of me with a financial bribe. Lmao they got the wrong one. I got my own (when im not wasting it at the casino) 😂
- Theyre either sexual or not at all. Like damn i may not wanna have sex witcho ass anytime soon but i still like to talk dirty. I got some kinda needs 🙈
- They either live far away or live here with their mom. I’m tired of ldr but im not against it. And the ones who live with their mom usually have no intentions of moving out within a year or less so its just disappointing. 🙄
- Found out someone I was starting to like has a kid. Now thats a new one... i mean at least its only one kid so thats not a dealbreaker. Shocked the kid is like already 8 or something. But at least the baby mama is remarried and they can't stand eachother. So yea I don't know what will happen there.
