In the final season of buffy there was an undertone in the show, where men were talk down to as being useless idiots and the women were better in everyday. Buffy often never gave any credit when a male gave her advice which she ended up using and even took credit for it during this season. The watcher (Rupert Giles) who trained, and guided her since high school was basically told to fuck off, told he was useless now and to take a back seat by her coming down to the end of the season quite literally. The men who created the slayer, were beaten up by her and called weak for chaining up the first slayer, and giving her the powers to become a slayer in the first place, which sequentially created the other slayer lines.

Even this little line "What if you could have that power... now? In every generation, one slayer is born... because a bunch of men who died thousands of years ago made up that rule. They were powerful men. This woman is more powerful than all of them combined. So I say we change the rule. I say my power should be our power." from Buffy has a bit of a misogynistic undertone of girl's rule and men are outdated.

The final season occurred in 2003 when radical feminism was on the rise and becoming popular, and we were just coming out of the Spice girl craze with girl power. It should be noted the show didn't start out with male's being treated this badly, it was more balance out with fair respect for each gender during the earlier seasons.
