I’m a conservative and I really do not want Trump vs Biden again. No. Hell no. I want DeSantis because I think he will make a far better president when it comes to policy.

But Trump is crushing it in the primary polls right now. His core base sees voting for him as ”getting revenge” on leftists. They see it as fighting back at the corrupt system.

In a way I share their anger. But what matters more to me is 1) policy 2) long term results (Trump can only serve 4 years). Also I groan at the possibility of having to deal with liberals acting deranged over Trump again and the whole circus that comes with it. The problem is Trump actually loved negative attention. He invites and says/does stupid and unnecessary things just he loves the added attention. I just don’t want to see that again.

6 in 10 Americans say U. S. democracy is in crisis as the 'Big Lie' takes root

One year after the Jan. 6 attack on the U. S. Capitol, Americans are deeply pessimistic about the future of democracy.

A new NPR/Ipsos poll finds that 64% of Americans believe U. S. democracy is "in crisis and at risk of failing." That sentiment is felt most acutely by Republicans: Two-thirds of GOP respondents agree with the verifiably false claim that "voter fraud helped Joe Biden win the 2020 election" — a key pillar of the "Big Lie" that the election was stolen from former President Donald Trump.

Fewer than half of Republicans say they are willing to accept the results of the 2020 election — a number that has remained virtually unchanged since we asked the same question last January.

"There is really a sort of dual reality through which partisans are approaching not only what happened a year ago on Jan. 6, but also generally with our presidential election and our democracy," said Mallory Newall, a vice president at Ipsos, which conducted the poll.

"It is Republicans that are driving this belief that there was major fraudulent voting and it changed the results in the election," Newall said.

Nearly two-thirds of poll respondents agree that U. S. democracy is "more at risk" now than it was a year ago. Among Republicans, that number climbs to 4 in 5.

Overall, 70% of poll respondents agree that the country is in crisis and at risk of failing.

Deep partisan divisions about what happened on Jan. 6

The country can't even decide what to call the assault on the Capitol. Only 6% of poll respondents say it was "a reasonable protest" — but there is little agreement on a better description. More than half of Democrats say the Jan. 6 assault was an "attempted coup or insurrection," while Republicans are more likely to describe it as a "riot that got out of control."

More than 1 in 4 Republicans approve of Jan. 6 rioters: poll

More than 1 in 4 Republicans now say that they approve of Trump supporters taking over the Capitol during the Jan. 6, 2021, attacks, a new poll found.

A Economist-YouGov poll published on Wednesday found that 27 percent of Republicans strongly or somewhat approve of the rioters’ attempts on Jan. 6, 2021, to stop Congressional proceedings. The poll results also showed that 19 percent of Democrats also strongly or somewhat approved of the riot on the Capitol.

The poll also found that 52 percent of Republicans somewhat or strongly disapproved of the Jan. 6 rioters, compared to 76 percent of Democrats. Twenty percent of Republicans said that they were not sure whether they approved of the supporters, while 5 percent of Democrats said that they were not sure.

When asked what best describes their view on what happened during insurrection, 54 percent of Republicans said “people participated in a legitimate public discourse.” Just 27 percent of Republicans selected the second option that said “people participated in a violent insurrection,” while 20 percent said that they did not know.

Georgia Grand Jury Finds No Evidence Of 'Widespread Fraud' In 2020 Election

A Georgia grand jury found no evidence of “widespread fraud” in the 2020 election there, undercutting the rationale for former President Donald Trump’s attempts to overturn his loss in that state, according to excerpts released by a judge Thursday.

The excerpts released do not spell out what charges the 23-member panel recommended be filed against which individuals, although they do believe that some of the 75 witnesses who appeared before them lied under oath.

“A majority of the grand jury believes that perjury may have been committed by one or more witnesses testifying before it,” jurors wrote. “The grand jury recommends that the district attorney seek appropriate indictments for such crimes where the evidence is compelling.”
The panel, which probed Trump’s actions to coerce Georgia officials into falsely declaring him the winner of the state, finished its report for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis prior to its dissolution last month.

In the portions made public, the grand jury explained that it had heard testimony from witnesses and reviewed documents and other evidence over a seven-month period starting last May. It acknowledged the panel did not include any election-law experts or criminal lawyers and advised Willis to pursue criminal charges they may have overlooked.
They also refuted Trump and his allies’ claims that he had actually won in that state. “The grand jury heard extensive testimony on the subject of alleged election fraud from poll workers, investigators, technical experts and state of Georgia employees and officials, as well as from persons still claiming that such fraud took place,” they wrote. “We find by a unanimous vote that no widespread fraud took place in the Georgia 2020 presidential election that could result in overturning that election.”
