But Love and Hate are  opposite emotions  we all know. So what similarities do they really possess? *Both are  Extreme  emotions *Both are felt about someone because of who they are and how we feel about them *Both have strong desires for a finite end result. We wish those we love to thrive and greatly succeed at all that they do. We wish for all their dreams to come true. While we wish pain and failure for those that we hate and for all their dreams to end in nightmares. Let's say that you really love someone but find out they cheated on you. At first you are left in shock and disbelief. Next the shock turns to hurt and pain. Then the emotion starts to switch to anger. Finally a hatred sets in and grows deeper as you realize what a fool you have been taken for... you know I'm right! Love and hate are related emotions because they are both strong and intense and directed towards someone in particular and many times that same someone is on the receiving end of both, and maybe by their own doing. Wouldn't it be nice if all hatred could be eliminated from the planet and we could just say... The first to apologize is the bravest

Interesting subject for some out loud thinking.

First thing that comes to mind is that loving doesn't hurt, I can love someone or something but be relatively ok if it ends. For example I may love a pet, but I don't grief all to long if that pet dies since once the initial sadness fades that's healed. I may absolutely love an experience I had at a theme park, and then still go home happy at the end of the day.

Then we have a different case, a true soul mate who you deeply love. The kind of love that can never go away, a bond that seemed like it would never break. If that shattered you are completely broken, its been the cause of my biggest pain imaginable. Heartbreaks truly hurt.

And yet, there is another experience where I had the same thing, which crushed me deeply and that was when people I had destroyed myself for acted selfish in return. I never developed love for those people, yet it hurt the same. Why?

Meanwhile Hate is a possible not but guaranteed consequence of that pain, the girl who broke my heart more intensely than anyone else I also loved the most. But simultaneously I never truly hated her for the fact we had to end on good terms. It did overcome me briefly, as if possessed by an entity feeding of my pain trying to make me lash out at her but that wasn't something from within me and it surely wasn't something I wanted to do to her.

So if its not love this pain and hatred is tied to, then what is it? If its not love that develops the deep soul bonds, then what is it? Surely love is the gateway to it, but is it also the thing itself?

The only thing that comes close in my mind is the analogy of the soul, when you truly put your soul into something. You gave it your all, your energy, your spirit, your passion. And then somehow that was not equally appreciated or taken away. Perhaps it is because as it leaves, a part of you leaves with it. Perhaps the emotion you seek is deep care, not just love. Perhaps there is a word for that special bond I have no words for.

But whatever it is, it was very fun to think about as I was writing this answer. But unlike many other times when I do this, it didn't give me a conclusive answer to these questions.

Both love and hate show that a person cares. If they didn't care then there would be no love or hate. They'd just be ignored then and not cared about you at all.

There is also just a thin line between love and hate so it's easy to switch back and forth between them.

It might be difficult to believe but I don't think I've ever truly hated anyone yet in my life. That might actually be common here in Japan.

I'm no saint though. What I do instead when I encounter someone who hurt me is that I take it out on the situation or their actions instead of the person. "I hate that we had this misunderstanding! I hate what they did to me!" Like that. I can grow quite furious but I blame it on actions and situations instead of the person.

It might be a way of deflecting hatred onto a person but I find it therapeutic since it's much harder to hold onto hatred towards the inanimate.

Hate is the stronger and more passionate and dangerous emotion in my case. Especially now as I grow older, love takes on a gentler meaning: not so intense like wild waves crashing against rocks in a storm but just gentle waves on a calm beach.

This is a very interesting and well thought out question. Well Done!

I agree there is a strong correlation between Love and Hate and they are closely related hence the thin line.

I am of the belief that Love is the stronger of the two. Hate is so negative that even if you get to the point where you hate someone for some reason, that Hate will fade with time. Choosing to love deeply and unconditionally is a great feeling and it's done by choice, not by an act that triggered a response that leads to something lime hate. If you so choose, Love can be everlasting and bring joy to you life with good memories that last forever. Hate can never last like that.

That, my dear, is why I choose Love over Hate and believe it is the stronger of the two.

Love is a building emotion that brings people together and creates bonds, friends, and families... Hate is a destructive emotion mainly to the holder but also to their victims and not involved people around. It never brings relief and only pain and destruction.

To love means caring for others, while to hate means satisfying one's own urge to harm others.

Hate burns stronger, but it feeds on the holder's emotions and life force. It's stronger but also destructive to the holder's body, soul, and mind.

This is actually really easy to answer because there is an objective truth to it.
Love is stronger, because the things you love, you tend to love your entire life, but the things you hate, you tend to remove from your life, and then you forget about them, so hate doesn't normally last very long in most cases.

It seems, according Buddhism, that love and hate are two different aspects of the same phenomenon: a constant attention. I guess this is similar to the fact that the notion of white can't exist without black: light and dark, God and Devil, the left hand and the right one, negative and positive charge, etc... Both aspects create tensions and movement. Which one is stronger? Well, that depends on circumstances and the level of understanding of involved people.

I think hate is the strongest emotion because it can entice someone to actually KILL another person. When you HATE someone you can want to end their life. 100% true.

LOVE is a stupid emotion because it can make you become selfless. Even to the point of being stupid about it and sacrifice your very being (your very life) to protect that loved one, but yeah, I know in many people's eyes, that would have been well worth it.

Because love can be extremely painfull when it's not going well between the parties involved in the relationship. This pain can easily turn into hate because it can emotionally drain you to the point that you aren't able to function properly anymore mentally. You see it happen al the time during breakups

Love and hate really aren't opposites as much when thought out logically. You happen to be affected by the person.

These emotions are closely related even as they are opposites. If you love no one and nothing you won't have a very strong desire to protect and thus no one becomes an enemy regardless of who or what they threaten.
