Gov. Jeff Landry signed legislation on Wednesday requiring the display of the Ten Commandments in every public classroom in Louisiana, making the state the only one with such a mandate and reigniting the debate over how porous the boundary between church and state should be.

Critics, including the American Civil Liberties Union and the Freedom From Religion Foundation, vowed a legal fight against the law they deemed “blatantly unconstitutional.” But it is a battle that proponents are prepared, and in many ways, eager, to take on.

The legislation is part of a broader campaign by conservative Christian groups to amplify public expressions of faith, and provoke lawsuits that could reach the Supreme Court, where they expect a friendlier reception than in years past.

Governor argued that the Ten Commandments contained valuable lessons for students.

“If you want to respect the rule of law,” he said, “you’ve got to start from the original law giver, which was Moses.

It will also include a three-paragraph statement asserting that the Ten Commandments were a “prominent part of American public education for almost three centuries.”

That reflects the contention by supporters that the Ten Commandments are not purely a religious text but also a historical document, arguing that the instructions handed down by God to Moses in the Book of Exodus are a major influence on United States law.

“Given all the junk our children are exposed to in classrooms today, it is imperative that we put the Ten Commandments back in a prominent position,” said State Representative Dodie Horton, the Republican sponsor of the legislation.

The measure allows for “our children to look up and see what God says is right and what he says is wrong,” Ms. Horton told colleagues. “It doesn’t preach a certain religion, but it definitely shows what a moral code we all should live by is.”

He leans progressive and I’m a moderate conservative. We have some differences on opinions with politics. But both of us know some subjects are just off limits. But we respect each other very much otherwise.

But I notice women more than men seem to make very quick and easy judgments about people when they don’t agree with their politics. The only time they give men a (semi) pass is if they find the man physically attractive. But even then it’s only a semi buffer.

To be fair men can be like this too. I’ve seen time and time again where guys seemingly “agree” with a woman’s political POV only if they want to sleep with her. I find that to be absolutely beyond pathetic simp bs.

There was a time many years ago when politically opinionated women actually liked it when guys disagreed with them (because it showed the guy had a backbone). But those times are long past ever since Trump first got elected in 2016. So I usually change the subject/don’t respond in those scenarios. If she keeps going off on it then I won’t associate with her anymore. But I will never change my core beliefs just to impress a woman.

But I find that men I disagree politically are easier to get along with in the real world (definitely not on GAG) then women are. Just as long as we have common ground on something else.

Maher suggests that over 40% of Biden supporters, which i expect is 100% of people who identify as democrats, are in favor of a national divorce. Bill doing what he always does to make it appear that republicans are the villains of every story, he narrows the sample population of republicans to the southern US so that it looks like more conservatives than liberals want divorce. The real numbers are probably closer to even. I couldn’t find it, but on another episode he points to another poll that indicates that nearly half of all voters, democrats AND republicans, think the country would be better off if their political opponents were dead.
There’s no evidence to suggest that the democripps and rebloodlicans will ever deescalate for peace and prosperity. So should we just do the national divorce? Or should we just murder each other? Ell oh ell!

I for one just think since Cameron, May, Johnson, Truss, surely Sunak aka Rishi surely he will win just because the Tories have won for over 10 years. And with all this counting out the Tories ever since for months, lol, it's like overconfidence for UK Labour - lol they never saw the polls swing coming and sure enough the Tories overtake them, indicators on, turn signal turn signal turn signal 🍊🍊🍊
