I'm just wondering. I'm getting braces fairly soon, I'm 17 currently and may be around 18 when I get them. Orthodontist said I should have them on for around 2 years, and I even have to get two teeth pulled due to over crowding (no gaps should be visible when I smile however). I wish I could've gotten them earlier, seeing as a graduate this year and will have braces for my prom/grad. So I'm asking if braces bother you?

Also side note: can't get Invisalign, it won't work on my teeth, but I'm probably getting the clear braces/elastics so I won't look like the girl from Braceface

In middle school I was bullied into depression, the kids at my school always told me I was ugly/ weird and I was fat and disgusting. And I was lame because I loved reading and writing and I didn't like the same things the other kids did. I was mostly disliked due to how I looked and my love for writing. But I wanted to feel good about myself and stop the kids from being rude to me all the time. I was a nice person and didn't talk much so most people either saw me ugly or silent.

In middle school I lost weight and got braces.

In high school I started to wear makeup and dress with more style.

But I'm still worried that the kids at my new high school will hate me like the kids in my middle schools did. Due to how I looked and the things I like. I know it's dumb to say stop caring about what people say, but at my school people don't choose friends, they let society choose for them. So if a girl is called a slut her friends would leave her and find a person people talk better about. I had people stalk me and tell others where I lived for Pete's sake!

Well I'm starting to like this boy that I've known since 1st grade (now we're going to 9th) and I'm wondering whether he likes me back or not. So.. I had had a crush at him at 5th grade, and I told him, but he didn't like me back so we stayed friends. I got over him the following year and then we went to middle school and we lost contact, we basically didn't talk, although we went to the same school. He's become kind of a player and cocky, and I was pretty annoyed at him. But last spring (of 8th grade) he kinda started showing interest in me... When I got braces (he has too) he told me "Hey, you got braces?" smiling. I replied by a simple "yes" and then left. Then after a while, I was walking home with my BFF after school and he saw us, so he said "hi" and she replied, but I ignored him. He said "i said hi" again, louder, obviously to me, and I replied "I don't care" and left. I have to admit, I was p*ssed at him for being so cocky. Then at the last days of school, as he was walking next to me, he playfully touched my cheek. I was kinda shocked since we weren't even friends. And my BFF saw it and she asked me "does he like you? Cause he's also been staring at you lately"! And now I'm thinking so much about him, I dreamt about him last night. I think I'm starting to develop a crush on him... But I don't want to! What should I do? Do you think he might like me? Thanks!

Little background info here:
I've had a misaligned jaw for a couple of years; my orthodontist messed up with braces, and causes a lot of problems. I can't afford the treatment to re-align my jaw at the moment. Even with health cover, it'll cost a few thousand. Because of the misalignment, I get severe TMJ pain, headaches, nausea and referred pain to my neck and back. To manage it, I take large amounts of codeine, as well as oxycodone and naloxone when it's particularly bad. (Please note; I was prescribed all of this, but some of it wasn't intended for this purpose.)

Some of my friends and family have expressed concern over the amounts of painkillers I take, but I simply can't function without them.

I'm wary about telling any guy I date about the drugs, even when I stay with him. I either try to be discreet, or try to soldier on through the pain (very difficult), because I don't know how he's going to react.

Would any of you have a problem with this? Can you please explain?

never wore makeup in middle school. hell, I never washed my face, or combed my hair in middle school either. i got up threw on some clothes and ran out. I may of washed up and smelled good. but I rarely put any effort what so ever in my looks. I was fat. so i often looked dirty and sleepy. I basically let myself go and didn't care. then suddenly i noticed how rude people were to me. and i started being told i looked like shit. people would avoid me, or tell me i was a ugly motherfucker. i had very little friends and when i did they were rude. guys trashed my things and i was told i was ugly and looked bad. the guys would even rip up my folders and tell me always i was ugly bitch and no one liked me. my friends were the same way. so, one day i went to my mom and asked for braces. ( i had horrble teeth i was suppose to get braces years ago) she smiled and said, yeah girl!. so, i stopped sucking ny tumb and got braces. my doctor says they will be off soon. people tell me i look good now but behind my back i am told i look slutty. ;/ i even got myself a bigger butt. ;D

i know its wrong to change how you look so people can like you, but i did it thinking if i became cute people would like me. i will have a higher self self esteem and i could reverse the effects of bullying. was i wrong for changing my look?
