Is it a good idea to live with a partner before deciding to get married, why or why not?

I talk about this with my boyfriend pretty often, and my parents chime in every once in a while. My parents are older in their 60s, they were raised to not live with their partners before marriage, also cohabitation wasn't very common and unconventional... So my parents definitely find it odd that so many unmarried couples are living together nowadays.

However, I bring up how so many couples nowadays find it better because they get a "sneak peek" of what living with their partner is like, so they can see if they are compatible regarding living together, instead of it being a shock when they first move in after marriage. Seems logical.

Anyways, I wondered if you think it is a good idea to live with a partner before getting married, why? Or if you think it's better to live with a partner (for the first time) after marriage, why?

All my relatives are 28, late 30s to 40s with kids, bought a home, and earn a lot of money. I seem to be the youngest turning 25 and a black sheep ignored. Everyone is older 30-40 & rich showing off their home they bought. I’m young but I’m the only person that has lived in a studio home with a small business. Everyone else in my family had none of that my age. Just living with parents broke or party. I don’t talk to any of my family at all. I’m alone or see boyfriend. Also my family members became stuck up as they have good job or earn more money, which is sad to see. Everyone in my family ignores me , no one asks about my life or business, they r just distant gone. Don’t care of me. I don’t have kids so I don’t need buy a home yet. Maybe in 10 years when I’m 35. Or meantime I can live with a boyfriend when I have a baby in a nice townhouse Big apartment. i don’t want be rich or stuck up. I want simple life , no competing, just enjoy my home and partner that’s it. I don’t desire be rich have expensive things.

I’m 23 living w/ my mom. Which we kinda like roommates now. Honestly though I don’t want her in my life anymore. She has hurt me to the point I just really dislike her. We split bills but since 2020 she has quit jobs left and right leaving me to pay majority of the bills often. Not that I judged her for quitting but she’d complain about bills when I was the only that didn’t quit a job. On top of that she has accused me of not being loyal to her and accused me of taking her things. She threatened to call the police on me if I didn’t find her keys. She literally flipped my room upside down looking for her keys, just for her keys to be where she said she already looked.

she goes into my room when I’m at work, busting in my room all kinds of early morning while I’m sleep. I know you guys will say just move out. Well I’m planning on it but I pay all the bills alone our rent is over $1000 and utilities, food, phone bill, transportation. I only get paid bi weekly and only get a $1000 from working 80 hrs every two weeks.

Angel and I’ve apologized for all my wrong doing but the disrespect and stress I go through is ridiculous. Makes me want to end my life just to get away from her, and the bills. I had a miscarriage because of her and my depression has been swallowing me whole.

im completely fucked up emotionally and she only cares about what people done to her forget how she treats me. She has this sense of entitlement and it’s killing me! I can’t take it! I’m losing my mind living with her and I’m trying to not spazz out and go off and say fuck her and whatever happens with bills!
