I've been using dating apps periodically for the past few years. I don't know about anyone else, but I always feel as though conversations quickly become a one way street. Especially when the girl I start chatting with sounds bored from the beginning, or only gives the most basic responses. Or never asks me a question and I have to figure out what to ask as a follow up question based on their basic responses.

So I'm curious, am I just unusual for hoping the conversations with women in dating apps, would have more substance before actually meeting. Or is this the norm. After all I'm looking for a relationship, not a one night stand.

Also, I'm not singling out women, that's just who I'm interested in. For all I know there are women out there feeling the same way as I do about the initial contact with men.

On a similar note, why do so many people provide so little information in their dating app profiles. Generally there is only basic or even no information with just photos, or photos with emoji images (emoji images to me seem lazy) in place of a self summary. It almost seems as though half the people out there have become lazy about dating or maybe it's just the city I currently live in.

There is this girl about two months ago that wanted to be my friend again as we haven't seen each other in 8 years. We are both 18. She is the daughter of a friend of my mom. We were friends in elementary school.

Here's advice from my mom:
No fake rapping or singing. Be yourself.
Girls like guys who don't talk/text too much.
Don't get to know her too well. Just be her friend. (Until I visit the girl I like this summer if I ever have that chance.)
Say something like hey what's up beautiful (or her first name) how u doing.
Have a normal tone, don't sound harsh.
My mom has said things like "I'm a girl, I know what girls like."
Mom thinks girls like guys who have style, such as fluffy hair with no cuts. With my 0-and-1 haircut she thinks I'll go bald.

Here's advice from my dad:
Keep it sexy, not goofy.
Call her sexy, NOT beautiful.
Act like the bad boy. Get her wet.
Don't ask her childish, immature or stupid questions. Ever. According to my dad, I "screwed up" by asking her a question if she likes pizza or breadsticks better but she did have immediate responses to the question. (My dad still makes fun of this question I asked the girl once whenever I bring up advice for dealing with girls and the girl I like.)*
*In addition, random food questions should be limited to exotic foods such as hummus, rather than international or American food such as pizza or breadsticks.
Don't be too nice or quiet. That's gay. Be loud, clear and straight-forward.
My dad has said things like "I'm a dude, I know! Trust me!"
Dad thinks girls like guys who don't have shitty hair (it better be rad like the 0-and-1 Mom doesn't like and the goatee).

The girl I like refuses to answer hard questions like how was school or what her goal is, but answers weekend plan questions and how the weather is around her area and what she is allergic to (a little allergic to oranges, but nothing much).
