Is it important for your parents to approve of your relationship? I think it is, regardless of your situation. Obviously if you need transportation to and from your SO parental approval is paramount. If you don't, people may assume it's a formality. It isn't. Chances are your parents will die and leave you a fair amount of money. Money that may exceed what you possess. Yet if I had a kid I we ould only do that if I believe my kid cfc will not be taken advantage of by their SO. If I see my kid date people who are losers or who take advantage of my child my desire to leave them money isn't there. My sister was in this position for a while. She needed devotion so she dated guys who couldn't find anyone better. They were losers. It got to the point where my mom considered writing her out of the will. Eventually she found a guy who considers her the best thing that ever happened to him, but isn't a loser (or, at least, can choose a much better job than what he currently has).
