What is a toulbeh?

My lebanese friend is having a toulbeh so she can get to know her future husband.

Is it like a parents approval to date someone?

According to Google The "Tulbeh" is where the groom formally asks the brides family for her hand in marriage. It's usually followed by exchanging of rings, a dinner, and lots of dancing
