I don't understand why massage therapists get tips if doctors, nurses, paramedics, psychiatrists, counselors, emergency medical technicians, physical trainers, etc. who all work just as hard if not harder do not get tips. Massage therapists make about $26 an hour on average if they work for another company and can make over $100 an hour if they work independently as their own boss. Expecting a tip when a person is this well paid for the job they are doing is beyond strange to me. It's one thing if a person randomly offers. It's another if they just expect it.

Massages are so expensive in the U. S. that I just skipped a year of monthly massages and flew out to Bali for 2 weeks to get massages every day for only $14 each and full spa treatments for only $25. That's insane! An entire Balinese vacation cost less than a year of massages in the U. S. That included food, rental, plane tickets to multiple island, living on a boat for a few days, spas, shopping, etc.

That being said, I have tipped 2 massage therapists who worked for a larger company and did an incredible job. But, they did not request it or even suggest it.
