I've been in a number of relationships; many of them were relatively short-term, but several of them lasted six months or more. A few of them were quasi-long distance, as they lived 80-90 miles away from me, but I could and did drive and see them every weekend.

I frequently see questions posted in which people are asking about LDRs and it is clear that they have NEVER met in person, but they talk about being "in love." That astounds me! How can you think that you know a person when you have never held their hand or kissed their lips, never shared a meal together, never saw something comical and shared a spontaneous laugh?

How can you really know someone if you've never had a conflict or an argument and you see how they treat you when the relationship is strained? How can you fall in love with someone who you don't really know?

Were you ever in a LDR? Did you finally meet? If so, were they just what you expected (suggesting that, yes, you really did know them?) Or were you pleasantly surprised or depressingly disappointed?
