Everyone always says never settle for less.

You found someone that you REALLY like but:

A. He/She is your ideal type. They're perfect physically... BUT they are very insecure. Have low self esteem. They have a substance addiction (alcohol). They're not happy with their life as well.

B. He/She is okay looking. Not the best.. average.. but they have the most amazing personality. They are absolutely confident with themselves. They have goals in life.

Would you go for the looks or the confidence?

My SO is older than me by 6 years, which for me, is not ideal. I generally like to stay under a 5 year rule. However I did make an exception for this guy because I just liked him that much.
When I revealed to one of my friends (I'm not terribly close to them, they're one of those friends that you catch up with every few weeks or so and act like besties while you're catching up, but then go back to not saying a word to each other for a few weeks or however long) how much older my boyfriend was, he was like "Oh, so you wanted a father figure?" And I sat there like "tf..." Like I get it, he's plenty older than me, and there are guys I work with that are younger than him who already have kids. But That is certainly not what I was looking for. I wanted a MAN, sure, but I've always found "father figure" type relationships to be a bit icky when it involves said father figure being intimate with the younger SO.

But is that just the general assumption that people get? Automatically assume I have "daddy" issues and need a father figure, even if it involves sleeping with said man?
