Recently, I have been listening to Cat Stevens music from the olden days, stuff that was recorded years before his eventual conversion to Islam. Apparently he was involved in a controversy about saying an author of a book should die because of the book's blasphemous content. Because of this, some protested by boycotting his songs.

Following Ayatollah Khomeini's February 14, 1989 "death fatwa" against author Salman Rushdie, after the publication of Rushdie's novel The Satanic Verses, Yusuf Islam (previously known as Cat Stevens), made statements endorsing the killing of Rushdie. His statements generated criticism from commentators in the West.

In response, Yusuf Islam said that some of his comments were "stupid and offensive jokes" made in "bad taste."

In a 2000 Rolling Stone magazine interview:

I'm very sad that this seems to be the No. 1 question people want to discuss. I had nothing to do with the issue other than what the media created. I was innocently drawn into the whole controversy. I recently started a new job in an industry I’ve never worked in. I have a guy mentoring me, who has been for the last 4 weeks. I will list everything significant down

- When we had to evacuate for a fire drill, it was raining and he gave me his lab coat to keep me dry

- He said he remembered me from my interview but he only saw me for a few minutes

I told him I did eyelash extensions but none of my friends would let me practice on them. He said “you can do mine if you want”

When he walks past me in the cafeteria he puts his head down and hurries past. The other day, he glanced at me and I smiled but he looked away and walked off.

He looks into my eyes for a few seconds when we talk. I noticed on rare occasions his pupils dilate.

- He has given me a lot of support and compliments about how well I’m picking it up

- He said he thought I was younger than 28

- He has been the only person in our department inviting me to sit with everyone at break time.

- When planning the Christmas do, the manager asked who was bringing their partner and I said I’m single. The guy in question seemed a little more hyperactive and talkative towards me.

Another guy keeps being odd. Today, he asked me if I had invited my crush to go on a walk. The other guy also spoke about me coming to a party and my crush was like “yeah that would be good”

So there are a few signs that he likes me but I’ve noticed that in the canteen area, when he walks past he will put his head down and hurry past. The other day, he looked at me and I smiled and he practically ran away! Also I text him with a video of some cool stuff and he gave me the bluntest reply. He hasn’t text me since LOL

I just feel like I’ve dealt with a lot of rude people this week. Today, I had to call an agency to receive assistance (financial) and was asked additional questions for the interview process. When the interview ended, the guy told me that someone needed to write a letter and send it. And when I started asking a few questions, he goes “LISTEN” and then provided directions. And I had more questions, he answered and I repeated what he said to make sure it was right. He said “you got it” and the call disconnected. Not sure if connection or he was just an ass, am I being too sensitive?
