I'm older, so my exposure is predominantly around people my own age. What I've found after re-joining the dating world is a significant number of women out there now in my dating pool want it both ways. They want the stereotypical 1950's American life style where the husband goes out and makes the income and the wife, if she works, pockets what she makes. They also want to control (spend as they see fit) the income their would-be spouse would make and do 50% or less of the household chores. I'm curious if this is the norm or an anomaly associated with the eligible dating pool in my area. I'm also curious who this line of thinking makes sense too?

I was married for four years to a woman who made herself a slave to her children; she never said "no" to whatever they asked of her. She would occasionally call me from her employment to tell me that she was going to babysit for her son and daiughter-in-law and would be home later. I never said, "No, I don't want you to do that," but I would ask if she had any idea of when she would be home. She would always tell me that she had no idea. Then I would ask her to call and tell me her ETA whenever she got to her son's house and got more info on their plans for the evening. She would never call me and would not answer the phone if I tried to call her. She would get home between 10 PM and 11 PM with no apology for not calling me; I would be a bit irritated that she couldn't keep me informed of her plans.

I think that what I asked her was a reasonable thing for a married person to ask their spouse, but she thought I was being too possessive and controlling. No one in my previous relationships has ever accused me of being controlling.

Yes, I did considetr the possibility that this story about babysitting was simply a ruse to cover for her meeting up with someone else. I don't think that is what was happening, but I also don't feel very confident about that issue.

Do you think I was being too controlling or possessive?

I mean I know for fact it means men not wanting to pursue marriage or relationship and just live for themselves. I heard that marriage and long term relationships are no different to prostitution apparantly... which kind of scares me to make any commitment with a women in future :-/ like if we get married or half way in a long term relationship she will control me and when am not doing what she wants she divorces me and takes all my money. How can i trust them? It could ruin my life. i mean could a man actually play the field and sleep with escorts all his life or is their no difference? It's kind of worrying especially when your friends and family don't see you with a spouse an ask you why then your having to tell them. Is it true that I could ruin my life?
