Search Results: escaping from reality

A few days ago I posted a question in total frustration at the fact that I can easily afford to pay rent, but I cannot afford to save for a security deposit, or a down-payment on a home-loan.

My quest into the interwebs looking for answers has left me shocked and little disheartened.

Apparently this is an ongoing and growing problem for millions of Americans, that it is unlikely anyone who is currently under the age of 35 will ever be able to own their own home.

And the reasons for this are even more upsetting: The cost of rent should equal about 30% of your income, but in reality, it's closer to 90%. A "living wage" is SUPPOSED to be able to sustain a 2 bedroom apartment at 40 hours per week on the federal hourly minimum.

But presently, there isn't a single city with the entire US where this is possible, true, or reality.

Millions of Americans find themselves unable to move out from under parents, or escape dangerous living conditions simply because they cannot afford both the first month's rent and the security deposit, because they cannot afford to save while paying rent in their current residence.

I was also very shocked to find that I am actually earning only $100 more per month than the federal poverty line, even though I am also earning more than I would if I were working 40 hours at $8 per hour.

This is all so very upsetting. I just don't want to believe this, so I want to hear from all of you. But I DO qualify for FHA loans because of my income level, so for me there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
