Both are forms of online trolling. However, they have a different definition.

Trolls

Trolls like upseting people on the Internet by posting inflammatory, insulting or off-topic messages in an online community. It can be on a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog. They get pleased out of provoking emotional responses. They can be mean and spiteful and don't care. They may go under different nicks and come back doing the same thing again.

Sockpuppets

It's a person that creates many different fake IDs. They come on forums telling false stories. For example, someone can post about their SO cheating on them but the person is really single; the story is fictitious. They do for the sole purpose of both getting reaction from others and lying behind their screens. They can be nice in their posts though, but just liars.

Which is worse to you? Would you say a sockpuppet is just as bad as a troll or less?

my boyfriend has an overseas close friend. i think they knew each other for 4 years. they met on the internet and used to call each other very often. but i heard she went away bcos of personal matters for a few months. recently, she came back and they started calling and chatting again. i later found out that since the day she returned, they called EVERYDAY for long hours - up to 10 hours a day. they exchanged slight flirty texts like "don't miss me too much" when they were hanging up the call and abit of dirty jokes.

those few days my boyfriend started sleeping super late. i think it's because of her since different time zones. even though he still texted me, i could feel that his presence wasn't really there. i asked him what he was doing and he said "gaming". after that when i found out he called her, i asked him why he didn't say he was calling and he told me it's bcos he was gaming and telling me that he's calling didn't cross his mind. they even watched a movie over Skype together.
