My situation is this. I was abused by my father who had a drinking problem when I was younger. Around age 12 or 13 was the worst time when he physically abused me by hitting me. My parents later divorced and I chose to stay with my mom, I did not want much to do with my father. I did not feel safe with him and the violence caused some emotional trauma that I needed to get away from. Over the years he hasn't helped me with anything and didn't even call to see if I needed help. Now I'm older and started talking to him again about a year ago when he wished me a happy birthday really I was just hoping he would offer to help me pay off my student loan debt or something as a way to make up for the past. But he never asks if I need help and never offers. He merely texts me to ask how I'm doing, and I am tempted to tell him I don't need a buddy to ask me how I'm doing. I needed a father and now I don't need one anymore. A father's role is to protect and provide which he didn't do for me. My spiritual father says he forfeited his role when he failed to do these things. I would like to confront him about the past again, last time I did about eight years ago he denied everything. I would say that it's hard for me to forge a relationship with no Foundation seeing as he never asked for forgiveness or confessed anything. Thank you for your feedback and feel free to comment.

I kinda wish I would have just started working straight out of high school instead of getting a degree. I would have had so many extra years of income and no student loan debt.

There’s also the issue of people getting a degree and either losing interest in that field or being unable to find a job in it.

My father never helped me with anything, but he helps my sister with everything.

Short background story:
My parents divorced when I was 15 and I stayed with my mom. I was physically abused by my father growing up. My sister remained in my father's custody because she was a rebellious child and my mother apparently couldn't handle her. My mother received child support and divorce earnings but I did not get any of that money. My mother worked in retail, and is low income.
My father helped my sister with everything financially. He paid for a majority of her undergrad college tuition, paid for half her rent while she was in a master degree program, and paid for her car insurance. He still gives her money, but he gives me almost nothing.
I became estranged from my father for many years after he remarried and I confronted him about my abuse which he openly denied. I chose to put this behind me and began speaking with him again about a year ago.

I was hoping my father would offer to help me, after not having helped me for so many years. I am done with my undergrad and received no financial help from anyone paying for my degree. It is likely that my student debt is much bigger than my sisters. I have made it a point that I have a lot of student loans and am struggling to pay it, although I do have a good job now.

I guess I am jaded and hurt that he still does not offer to help me, or at least give me some money to pay back my schooling costs like he did for my sister. He texts me regularly asking how I am, I can't help but to feel like he is "pretending to care", by not offering to help me. I am tempted to tell him, if you are not interested in helping me, (which is what fathers are for) I am not interested in having a relationship with you.
